About Me

My practice focuses on our collective humanity – the opportunities dance offers us to connect more deeply to ourselves, others, and the world around us; helping to uncover stories and foster a greater sense of compassion and acceptance both for ourselves and each other.

I utilise dance to help us find better and more meaningful ways to gather and live healthy and happy lives.

I combine somatic and body-based experiences with creativity and artistry to offer all people (and often those new to dance) unique opportunities to express themselves, improve their wellbeing, and ultimately live a more fulfilled life.

I have been working in dance for 20 years; including facilitating sessions, choreographing and directing, filmmaking, managing projects, and leading teams. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a wide range of organisations and charities, including with English National Ballet, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, and with inclusive dance charity Flamingo Chicks as their Head of Dance.

I have extensive experience in creating and leading accessible experiences, welcoming people with many different life experiences, including disabled people, those living with chronic conditions, refugees and asylum seekers, older people, and children and young people.

I also support fellow artists and creatives through informal mentoring.

You can find me in many places, including hospitals, refugee camps, community halls, hospices, universities, on West Yorkshire’s moors, and professional dance companies. My work is driven by a passion for people and community, challenging norms and making real change.

In 2019 I founded Curious Motion in response to bringing my work to my home borough of Calderdale, with a focus on the Elland area. Curious Motion is an artist-led socially engaged organisation that opens its doors wide to people of all ages and backgrounds and is committed to supporting those whose voices are often unheard. Curious Motion aims to support the cultural fabric of our community to create a fairer, healthier, and more compassionate world.

I am also a Trustee for two local charities: Voluntary & Community (VAC) in Calderdale and Ascendance in Leeds and Bradford.

I trained at Bretton Hall (University of Leeds) - the beautiful campus in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park - completing my BA (Hons) in Dance in 2006. I then undertook further training to focus more deeply on my technique and physicality, at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance in Dundee.

In 2011 I moved to London where I completed my MA in Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School (The Place); training in performance, dance film, choreography, and somatic practice. My MA focused specifically on embodiment and somatic approaches for the dance performer, and this ultimately led to what I do today!

In 2015 I moved back to Yorkshire and I’ve been based in the beautiful borough of Calderdale ever since.
